The CEO of Drivers & Vehicle License Authority (DVLA), Mr. Justice Amegashie has reiterated that all commercial drivers requesting an upgrade or renewal of their licenses would have to attend a mandatory one day NDA refresher course in line with the LI currently before Parliament.
The DVLA boss said this when he chaired a meeting organized by NDA and National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), for existing driver training service providers from the Polytechnics, Institutions and companies at NRSC Head office, Accra.
The meeting was to discuss the framework for accreditation and to showcase the NDA training methodology. The NDA is mandated to set-up model schools in accordance with the NRSC Strategy III to build capacity around the regions to deliver the driver training and education.
The Executive Director of NRSC, Mr. Noble J. Appiah said, “The revised Road Traffic Regulations are currently before Parliament for review and ratification. As we await the passing of the LI the Minister of Transport, using the powers of his Ministry, has put together a Mandatory One Day Course for Commercial Drivers”.
On his part, the Executive Director of NDA, Mr. Etse Ladzekpo said, “The NDA is set-up to harmonize the driver training industry with the new methods of training delivery which are cognitive to address attitudes and behavior in order to reduce the road crashes in the country in accordance with NRSC Strategy III. There will be formal advertisement in the newspapers to invite all those who express interest in this accreditation to apply in the next three weeks”.
Also present at the were Mr. Frank Asare, Director of NDA; Mr. David Adonteng, Director NRSC; Mrs. May Obiri-Yeboah NRSC; Mr. George Ackom, Director of DVLA and several senior personnel from the polytechnics, institutions, companies and driving schools around the country.
