Director of Communications of New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the National Security Ministry must be lauded for sanctioning operatives following Citi FM journalist, Caleb Kudah’s assault.
According to Yaw Buaben Asamoa, although he condemns the act of assault committed by the National Security operatives, owning up to the act and sanctioning its operative sends a positive signal, in his view.
He said that it is about time Ghanaians acknowledges the institutional weaknesses of the country and realise its growth.
“That National Security went there and did was not palatable so now that they have owned up and tried to do something positive about it by appearing to sanction people, is lauded because we’re moving from a position of weakness,” he said on Newsfile, Saturday, May 22.
Mr Asamoa added that “even as the National Security has been bold enough to come forward and be accountable and propose measures, it is also equally important that the media also come out and look at their modules and determine whether or not their actions also ensure stability of the state because all the institutions of the state are all after one thing, the stability of the state.”
His comment comes at the back on the National Security operatives on Tuesday, May 11, detaining and assaulting Caleb Kudah for filming state vehicles on the premises of the National Security Ministry.
The operatives also stormed the premises of the Adabraka-based radio station to whisk away his colleague, Zoe Abu-Baidoo for receiving the pictures of the abandoned vehicles.
Mr Kudah later revealed that the National Security operatives slapped and kicked him during his detention at the Ministry.
Upon investigations by the National Security Ministry into the assault, it concluded by sanctioning four of its operatives for their involvement in the assault of Citi FM journalist, Caleb Kudah.
The Investigation Committee commissioned by the Ministry indicted the Director of Operations, Lt. Col. Frank Agyeman, and three police officers for their misconduct which is in contravention to its standard operations.
In a statement signed by the sector Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, Friday, he said Lt. Col. Agyeman’s secondment to the National Security has been reversed.
He is also to report to the Chief of Defence Staff for further investigation and appropriate sanctions.
Three police officers have also been withdrawn from the National Security and are to report to the Ghana Police Service for further probe and disciplinary actions.
