The Deputy Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the current leadership of the opposition party as autocratic.
Isaac Hyde described the relationship between the national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its members as "headmaster-and-student affairs."
He made these claims in an interview with Asieduwaa Akumia on Joy Prime's Prime Morning.
Mr. Hyde’s comments come in the wake of the decision by some Minority MPs to break ranks with the party to vote and approve six ministerial nominees of President Akufo-Addo.
In a press statement signed by its General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC condemned the conduct of the MPs, saying, "It not only betrays the expressed will of the party but the desire of the Ghanaian people and constitutes a massive stab in the back of the good people of Ghana."
This move, the National Deputy Youth Organiser believes, is an affront to the independence of lawmakers in making decisions in the best interest of the state.
He further added that the request of the NDC leadership for its minority MPs to screenshot their secret ballot to show who they voted for was unfortunate.
Mr. Hyde indicated that "our leaders must be held accountable for their actions. They preach secret ballots during national elections and practise the opposite in parliament. How can the current Chairman of the NDC be posting on his WhatsApp status some MPs who filmed the process of their vote in the recent election by all MPs? This is contrary to what we spend money on to educate voters in general elections."
He also added that the NDC has always demonstrated weakness, for which reason "they will end up killing themselves by allowing their fears of telling the former President the truth to step down."
