Dr. Joe Owusu-Agyemang has launched his campaign to become the next chairman of the UK/Ireland Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, there is an urgent need for the party to elect individuals competent to wrestle power from the NPP government in 2024.

He further said that the Akufo-Addo-led administration has succeeded in running down the country, with all financial and economic barometers pointing in the wrong direction.

The recent "Galamsey Economy" exposé by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in which the embattled Minister of State at the Finance Ministry allegedly told the undercover investigators that Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, needs just $200,000 as an appearance fee before meeting with supposed investors

UK/Ireland Chapter Chairman Hopeful said, "Never have we as a country been brought to such a level of ridicule to the point that the masses are calling for the abject dismissal of the finance minister."

"The last resort for Ghanaians is the NDC going into 2024, but for the NDC to be better positioned to win the support of the electoral college in Ghana, it will have to close its rank and file. This will mean a complete overhaul of how activities are championed within the chapter and branches, even in the diaspora."

Dr. Owusu-Agyemang noted that "it cannot be business as usual when the NPP are constantly devising ways and means to "subvert" the will of the people through foul means."

In addition, the NDC stalwart indicated that there is a need to revisit the rollout of ROPA and the possibility of getting it implemented during the 2024 presidential and parliamentary polls.

With less than a month until the elections, Dr. Joe Owusu-Agyemang announced his candidacy for chairmanship as a divine responsibility in delivering victory to the NDC.

Dr. Owusu-Agyemang believes he has been tried and tested as the Vice Chairman for the chapter and has played diverse roles within the NDC UK/Ireland chapter; hence, it is time he is given the nod to lead the chapter.

As part of his vision, Dr. Owusu-Agyemang hinted at financial autonomy for all departments within the chapter, which has not been the case in previous administrations, and a welfare fund to support members.

He further highlighted the need for the chapter to acquire its own meeting place and was therefore willing to provide a seed capital of £5,000 in order to make this vision a reality.

To boost the membership drive, he emphasised the importance of the chapter assisting students in obtaining the e-card, which the chairman-elect is eager to do under his leadership.

In terms of probity and accountability, Dr. Owusu-Agyemang clearly outlined practical steps to ensure that funds generated within the chapter are wisely spent in the best interests of the membership.

He intends to present regular information on the audited account to the entire chapter in its regular quarterly meetings once he assumes office as the chapter chairman.

Dr. Owusu-Agyemang hastened to add that the upcoming contest is a friendly bout and hence admonished the other contenders to see beyond the elections; unite the party post-polls.

"We must learn to treat each other with respect at all times and embrace brotherliness in our quest of fighting for freedom for our beloved country from the shackles of the NPP," he said.

He explained that there is a need for all those vying for positions to acknowledge that the "true enemy" can never be within going into the election of 2024, hence the need to be mindful of their utterances during the internal electioneering period.
