The new National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, says he will focus on encouraging young people to go into mechanised agriculture to ensure food security for the country.
He takes over from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South and Communications Minister, Haruna Iddrissu.
Mr. Hlodze, who is an aide to President John Evans Mills, polled 387 votes to win the ruling party’s youth organizer position.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News at midday and to respond to the issue of the mandate of his office as a youth organiser vis á vis his vision to get the youth attracted to tilling the land, Mr Hlodze said though his immediate mandate, together with his two deputies and other officers, will be to see to the mobilization of the youth for the party, it is equally important that they are supported to improve their lot.
“It is very much important that we identify potentials and make sure that we maximize those potentials.”
“Most of them need to put body and soul together; most of them need to be gainfully employed and [as] you know, agriculture is one of the areas that you can easily direct young people to go.
“We are also going to make sure that those in trade – carpentry, masonry – and even those in the streets, they’ve been able to identify their potentials,” Mr Hlodze promised.
Asked how he could effectively organise the party, the new organiser said he would not be working in isolation but would be teaming up with his two deputies and other constituency heads.
