Kumasi-based sports presenter Sokoban Fatilow has mobilised hundreds of residents in the Sokoban township for a fitness walk and free medical screening, demonstrating how sports can be leveraged for community development.
Speaking during the event, Fatilow emphasised the broader purpose behind the initiative. “As a sports broadcaster, I believe sports go beyond commentary; it is about driving impact, empowering lives, and ensuring our people stay strong and healthy,” he said.
The exercise, held over the weekend, brought together participants of all ages for a 10km walk from the Sokoban community to the Ahodwo Roundabout and back.

The fitness walk was followed by health screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index checks, and general medical consultations, all offered free of charge.
Community leaders praised the initiative, noting its impact on promoting wellness and social cohesion. Residents commended Fatilow’s ability to rally the community, citing his credibility, authenticity, and long-standing presence in the area.

With lifestyle-related illnesses on the rise, the event served as a timely intervention, combining fitness, health education, and community engagement. Stakeholders also highlighted the role of media personalities in influencing positive behavioural change beyond broadcasting.
Fatilow’s initiative is expected to become an annual event, inspiring other local figures to champion health and wellness initiatives across Ghana.
“This is more than a walk; it’s a step toward building healthier, more informed communities,” Fatilow added, signalling his commitment to sustaining such impactful programs.
