National Investment Bank (NIB) PLC has committed GH¢1 million towards a housing redevelopment initiative for the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp, reaffirming its partnership with the military while outlining steps to revitalise its own operations.

The donation was announced at a brief ceremony, where the Managing Director of NIB, Chief Dr Doliwura Zakaria, described the contribution as seed funding for the Armed Forces’ accommodation project.

He noted that the bank and the military have maintained a strong institutional relationship over the years, including during periods of financial restructuring.

“Your continued confidence in us, especially during the difficult restructuring years, demonstrated institutional loyalty and trust,” Dr Zakaria stated, acknowledging the Armed Forces’ support during challenging times for the bank.

He explained that the housing initiative holds strategic value, which is why the bank decided to back it financially.

According to him, NIB is currently implementing reforms under the guidance of its principal shareholder, the government, including plans to float shares to strengthen its capital base and enhance long-term sustainability.

As part of efforts to deepen engagement with military personnel, Dr Zakaria disclosed that NIB’s board has approved the establishment of a dedicated branch at Burma Camp before the end of the year to improve banking access and promote financial inclusion within the barracks.

Responding to the gesture, the Chief of Defence Staff, William Agyapong, expressed gratitude to the bank and commended its recent turnaround efforts.

He noted that accommodation remains a major concern for the Armed Forces, revealing that the government has agreed to facilitate the construction of 10,000 housing units nationwide over the next five years.

Additionally, the military intends to deliver 250 new units at Burma Camp under the redevelopment plan.

Lt. Gen. Agyapong announced that a formal launch and fundraising event for the project is scheduled for April 18, 2026, and invited corporate bodies, including NIB, to support the initiative.

The ceremony concluded with an exchange of honours, as NIB presented a citation to the Defence Chief, who in turn awarded Dr Zakaria a military plaque in recognition of his leadership during the bank’s reform process.
