The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the People's National Convention (PNC), Mr Charlie Ayana has called on northerners not to be content with the position of a vice president but should rather aspire to occupy the presidency.
According to Mr Ayana, the trend of political parties always selecting northerners for the second office must be changed as they also deserve to lead the nation as presidents.
Speaking at the confirmation of the party's candidate for the Ashaiman constituency over the weekend, he urged Ghanaians especially northerners to vote for the party's flagbearer, Dr Edward Mahama to change the perception of the public on northerners.
He also called on members of the PNC not to defect to the other political parties under the flimsy excuse that the party was not growing but should rather work towards attracting more followers.
Mr Samson Asaki Awingobit, PNC parliamentary candidate for the constituency in an acceptance speech after being declared unopposed by Mr Fitz Addo, Deputy Tema Metropolitan Electoral Officer, rebuffed the notion that the party belonged to only the northerners.
The 29-year-old Life Insurer said the party was a multi cultural one that was focusing on empowering the youth for the development of the country.
