The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cut sod to commence the construction of the Ketu North constituency office complex in the Volta Region.
The project is a fulfillment of a promise by the current constituency executives during their campaign before their election in 2022.
The one-story constituency office would house a 100-capacity auditorium, a mini-conference room, 6 offices, a store, and other ancillary facilities.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, the Ketu North acting Chairman, Mac-Thompson Gbeti, said that it was imperative for the governing party to own a secretariat to coordinate its affairs.
He said a parcel of land had been acquired and duly registered by the party, and that is where the edifice would be constructed.
“As we are all aware, having a party office is a must for all political parties and we are not left out especially as we keep gaining grounds by increasing our votes at each election. This has called for a permanent place for us to call our own so that the Party can operate from there”, he said.
He lauded the Volta Regional NPP Secretary, Pope Yao Yevoo, for birthing the idea of constructing a constituency office and supporting it with a seed capital of GH₵‎500.
“It is our hope that this office complex costing Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵‎750,000ghc) when completed within 2 years will serve its purpose for the growth of this party in Ketu North”, he stressed.
The Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, who was the 2020 NPP Parliamentary Candidate in Ketu North lauded the vision of the constituency executives to bring to an end the era of housing the NPP’s constituency office in a rented apartment.
"We have been in a rented office since 1992", he recounted and assured of his support to the project.
The Volta Regional Secretary, Pope Yao Yevoo, underscored the fact that the acquisition of a constituency office "is an obligation imposed by Section 15 (1) of the Political Parties Act (2000) 574".
He rallied the support of the rank and file of the party toward the successful completion of the project.
The Ketu North Municipal Chief Executive, Anthony Avorgbedor, was elated with the idea to construct a party office and pledged his utmost support.
