The battle lines for the 2028 General Election are being drawn as the National Council of Patrons of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made a high-profile visit to the private residence of the newly elected flagbearer, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, on Friday, 13th February 2026.
The delegation, comprising the party's most seasoned stalwarts, formally congratulated Dr Bawumia on his "emphatic" victory in the recent presidential primaries, a win they claim underscores the rank and file's total confidence in his leadership.

Resource mobilisation and the 'Ready to Serve' mandate
In a strategic show of force, the Council used the Accra meeting to pledge its full weight behind the Bawumia campaign. Beyond mere endorsements, the Patrons committed to their core mandate: mobilising critical resources necessary for a high-octane, effective electioneering campaign.
Ms Akosua Frema Osei Opare, the immediate past Chief of Staff and Chairperson of the Council, made it clear that the group’s elite membership is ready for deployment.

“Looking at the rich experience and diverse backgrounds of our members, all patrons stand in readiness to serve on any assigned committee to complement the experience of other party members towards winning election 2028,” she declared.
A call for "Grassroots to National" healing
Despite the celebratory tone, the Council delivered a sober warning regarding party unity. They highlighted an "urgent need" for a comprehensive and thorough reconciliation process that permeates every level of the NPP, from the grassroots to the national executive.

Bawumia’s Response: The Reconciliation Committee looms
Accepting the Council's support, Dr Bawumia acknowledged the "wealth of experience" sitting in his room and pledged to tap into their expertise. Addressing the Council’s concerns on internal friction, the flagbearer announced that a formal Reconciliation Committee would be established imminently.
“Very soon, a reconciliation committee will be put in place to start the process towards ensuring a peaceful and united NPP, that is ready to resell power in 2028,” Dr Bawumia stated, underscoring his commitment to party peace.
