Three Members of Parliament in the Central Region would not be returning to Parliament come 2021.
The MPs succumbed to defeat after their attempt to get back to parliament was resisted fiercely by their contenders.
The first to suffer such defeat was the MP for Upper Denkyira East, Nana Amoako. The MP has held the seat for the past 20 years and was seeking to get back to parliament.
He was beaten by Dr Festus Kwoffie in Saturday’s primaries. Dr Festus Kwoffie secured 279 votes to beat Nana Amoako who had 243 votes.
The second Member of Parliament to suffer defeat is the MP for Twifo Atti-Mokwaa, Abraham Dwuma Odoom.
Mr. Odoom has been in Parliament for just a term but he was unsuccessful in his attempt to secure the party’s ticket to get back to parliament.
Ebenezer Dwamena shocked him on Saturday by polling 206 votes to pick the party’s candidature for the Constituency.
A lecturer with the University of Education, Winneba, Prof. Francis Owusu-Mensah, came second with 180 votes while the MP managed 119 votes.
The third MP who also suffered defeat on Saturday is the MP for Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa, Anthony Effah.
Anthony Effah, a man with a strong finance background would not be representing the people of Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa in the next Parliament.
It was the only constituency in the Central Region that had 5 aspirants challenging the incumbent MP.
A former District Chief Executive for the area, Emmanuel Adjei Domson offered to replace him. He polled 244. The rest had the following votes:
Samuel Ofori Ampomah - 162
Anthony Effah - 192 (Incumbent)
Ampong Ansah Banasco - 25
Bright Essilfie Kumi - 9
Ernest Kojo Smith - 4
