Kumasi Academy representatives at the 2020 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) have revealed that they beat Mfanstipim School once in a trial quiz in Kumasi prior to the main contest.
The boys from the Garden City said owing to the previous victory, thrashing their Cape-Coast based opponents wasn’t too much of a task.
The Kumaca boys, in an interview with Joy News shortly after the 1/8th stage of the contest, however, observed in a friendly character that their victory was the grace of God.
“Coming here was not a big deal, even though we won’t say they were a small team, because they are actually a good team. But God favoured us to win” said Benjamin Harrison Yeboah.
The Kumasi Academy boys also mention that unlike last year where the school was outclassed in the quarter-finals of the NSMQ by 2016 winners, Adisadel College, they are determined to beat expectation by pulling up more brilliant performances.
"This time, we are coming in bigger than before, so everybody should expect us," Emmanuel Osei announced.
Kumasi Academy finished as shark slayers with 53 points while the two-time winners Mfantsipim School slacked behind with 35 points.
Also contesting was St. Mary’s SHS who came in at the tail with 30 points.
Mfantsipim's loss also means they will be expected to start their 2021 campaign from the regional qualifiers once again.
