On Thursday, April 28, three schools in the Western Region battled it out for the zonal championship of the 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The Western Zonal Championship contest featured Archbishop Porter Girls' SHS, St John's School and Shama SHS.

At the end of the race, one school stood tall and that was Shama SHS.

It was not an easy contest because a three point margin would have changed the entire story for Shama SHS.

Shama SHS won the contest with 35 points. Following closely was Archbishop Porter Girls' SHS with 32 points.

St. John's School managed fairly well and scored 28 points.

Yesterday's defeat was too difficult for Archbishop Porter Girls' SHS to bear. Tears rolled down the eyes of the students and they had every reason to.

Shama SHS led the pack in Round 1, however, it led with just a point.

In Round 2, Archbishop Porter Girls' SHS caught up and Shama SHS and both schools scored 22 points.

Archbishop Porter Girls' SHS took the lead position in Round 3 with 32 points.

They lost their grip in the final round. This is where Shama SHS took advantage and grabbed the coveted trophy and bragging rights as 2022 NSMQ Western Zonal Champions.

The winning school celebrated but the defeated schools cried.
