The 1997-year group of the Ho Fiave Basic School in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region has refurbished the school's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) lab.

The project which cost GHȼ45,000 was to support the school's digitization agenda and provide students with improved access to technology education.

The leader of the 1997-year group, Gershon Adeklo said the initiative was part of the alumni's efforts to give back to their alma mater (Ho Fiave Basic School) and ensure the school is equipped with requisite resources for the training of the pupils.

He also called on the students and teachers to make optimal use of the ICT lab and to cultivate a culture of maintenance to preserve the facility for future generations.

"This ICT lab is a step towards equipping our students with the necessary digital skills for the future. We must ensure it is well-maintained and used effectively”, he said.

Mr. Adeklo emphasised the importance of the government’s initiatives in reforming the educational system and urged the authorities to implement measures that would ensure comprehensive reforms, to enhance the quality of education nationwide.

The Headmistress of Ho Fiave Basic School, Vida Katahena lauded the 1997-year group for their generous contribution.

She noted that the new ICT Lab would provide the pupils with a conducive environment to learn and develop their technological skills.

She, however, used the opportunity to highlight several pressing needs of the school.

"While we are immensely grateful for the refurbished ICT lab, we still face challenges that need urgent attention. Our school lacks adequate furniture for both students and teachers, the classrooms are not spacious enough, and there is no dedicated office space for the headmistress to perform administrative duties”, she lamented.

Madam Katahena, therefore, appealed to other year groups, philanthropists, and government bodies to come to the aid of the school and help address the challenges.

She stressed that providing these basic amenities would greatly enhance the learning environment and improve overall educational outcomes for the pupils.
