Black Queens have failed to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after they were beaten by Kenya on Tuesday.
Coach Mercy Tagoe’s side lost 1-0 to the Harambee Starlets in the second leg as they exited the qualifiers in the third round.
The first leg of the encounter ended 0-0 in Accra four days ago with Ghana missing various clear cut opportunities to take a healthy lead into the return leg.
Neither of the two sides could get a goal in the entire 90 minutes, but the Black Queens conceded a penalty after Justice Tweneboah was adjudged to have handled in the box, which was converted by Gentrix Shikangwa in extra time. Despite efforts by the Queens to get an equaliser, which would have seen them win the tie on away goals, the Starlets held on to advance to the fourth round of the competition where they will play the winner between Botswana and Zambia. Kenya had not won any of their last three matches against the West African side in all competitions. The Starlets had lost once and drawn twice, the latest draw came just last week in the first leg. --DISCLAIMER: The Views, Comments, Opinions, Contributions and Statements made by Readers and Contributors on this platform do not necessarily represent the views or policy of Multimedia Group Limited.
