The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has discredited a purported medical report suggesting that former Finance Minister, Mr Kenneth Ofori-Atta, is medically unfit to travel. The office has stated categorically that it has not received any such report from Mr Ofori-Atta or his legal representatives.
The disputed document, dated 14 May 2025 and purportedly signed by Dr Ahmed Abdalrhim, an internal medicine specialist with the Section of International Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA, surfaced online today, Tuesday.
It explains Mr Ofori-Atta’s inability to honour a scheduled meeting with the OSP on 2 June 2025.
Purported medical report
The purported medical report, titled “And To Whom It May Concern”, read as follows: “Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to inform you that Mr Ofori-Atta has undergone an MR-guided Biopsy and has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.
“A surgical intervention has been deemed necessary, after the testing and MRI and Biopsy procedures in March 2025, as I indicated in my February letter.
“This surgical procedure has been scheduled for June 13, with Dr Paras Shah of the Department of Urology (see attached letter). It is hoped that a closer date may open up,” the medical report stated.
“Following the procedure, Mr. Ofori-Atta will require a recovery period before he is able to travel to his home country. Please feel free to contact me if you require any additional information or have further questions” The medical report further reads.
However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, 3 June, the OSP made it clear that no official medical report had been submitted to its office regarding Mr Ofori-Atta’s health condition.
“We wish to place on record that neither Mr Ofori-Atta nor his lawyers have submitted any such letter to the OSP,” the statement said.
According to the OSP, the only formal communication from Mr Ofori-Atta’s legal team was a letter indicating a change in his medical condition—without any supporting medical documentation.
The OSP expressed concern about the circulation of the alleged medical report through the media rather than through official legal or investigative channels.
“It is notable that this alleged hospital letter has been circulated through the media rather than submitted to the law enforcement agency actively investigating him and responsible for decisions regarding his return to Ghana,” the OSP stated.

The Office reiterated that, to date, it has not received any certified medical records from a recognised medical institution to validate claims that Mr Ofori-Atta is unfit to travel.
Mr Ofori-Atta is currently under investigation by the Special Prosecutor in connection with alleged corruption-related offences.
The emergence and timing of the disputed medical report have raised eyebrows in both legal and political circles, prompting the OSP to formally distance itself from the document and publicly question its authenticity.
