Elijah Kwame Owusu Danso, a former member of defunct music group, Echo, has opened up on how some people tried to water down his appointment as running mate for Alan Kyerematen, the Presidential Candidate for Movement for Change.
Kwame, formerly known as E-Nice, told Lexis Bill on Joy FM’s ‘Personality Profile’ that while he had a lot of well wishes, some people also decided to mock him by making reference to ‘Gologolo’, a song he released years ago.
When asked what kind of feedback he had gotten after the announcement of his running-mate nomination, he quipped, “‘Gologolo’ feedback.”
Explaining further, he indicated some people who may have been influenced by their political biases decided to sway people’s attention from his personality and other achievements to the song he did.
“They tried to ridicule the music and tried to belittle the relevance of my nomination, to say that ‘Ghana is a cartoon station is heaven, this is a joke’, inference that I am a musician and I did ‘Gologolo’,” he said.
He said those people probably lost sight of the fact that music had various functions including making people happy.
“You know music speaks to the heart and the soul and music has a way of lifting you from your lowest moment to your highest moment. People have often times even wanted commit suicide but they hear some songs and then they refrain from doing that,” he explained.
That notwithstanding, he mentioned that the seeming derision earned him more visibility.
“One they put that narrative out, the commentaries also propelled the story and by the grace of God now everybody got to know and I remember because at the time there was no YouTube, the video had about 100 views. The last time I checked, it had over 12,000 views. This means that people were curious about who I was. They were digging to find out who exactly I was,” he added.
In the meantime, Kwame has intimated that his decision to accept Alan Kyerematen’s proposal to be his running mate stems from Alan’s resolve to see the youth at the top echelons of decision-making.
