Join host Samson Lardy Anyenini on JoyNews' Newsfile for an in-depth analysis of the pressing issues shaping Ghana's governance and political landscape.
The host and his panelists discussed the call by the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) and other political parties for President John Mahama to revoke the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Watch livestream here:
According to the GBA, President Mahama, who is neither a judge nor a judicial officer, exercised discretion “in the absence of a published Constitutional Instrument, Statutory Instrument or Regulation(s)” as required under Article 296 of the 1992 Constitution.
The GBA argued that the absence of such rules renders the suspension unlawful.
The show will also delve into the NPP's nationwide 'Thank You' tour, led by former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, which faces criticism amid concerns about its timing and potential political motivations.
Earlier this week, the former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani, criticised the party's ongoing 'Thank You' tour, calling for it to be suspended. He argued that the tour is ill-timed and unhelpful in the aftermath of the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
President John Dramani Mahama has nominated seven Justices of the Court of Appeal for appointment to the Supreme Court.
The nominees are expected to be considered by the Judicial Council and subsequently proceed to Parliament for approval.
Tune in to Newsfile this Saturday as the panel breaks down these critical national issues with insight and clarity.
