The Savannah Regional Police Command, with support from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit, has arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the robbery of two Mobile Money vendors at the Buipe Cattle Market in the Savannah Region.
The robbery, which occurred on June 29, 2026, resulted in the loss of GH¢430,000, according to the Police.
The suspect, identified as Yacouba Oumar, was arrested on July 23 at Soronuase in the Bono East Region following sustained surveillance by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Police Intelligence Directorate, with support from the Kintampo Divisional Police Command.
According to preliminary investigations, four men armed with two pump-action guns, a single-barrel gun and an AK-47 assault rifle attacked the two Mobile Money vendors at the cattle market.

The Police said the suspects fired sporadically during the attack before escaping with the stolen money.
Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police deployed a team from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit to support the Savannah Regional Command with the investigation.
The Police said the arrest of Yacouba Oumar followed the team's efforts to identify and track members of the suspected robbery gang.

During interrogation, the Police said Yacouba Oumar admitted taking part in the robbery and identified three other alleged accomplices as Yakubu Seidu alias Baba, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya alias Addo and Abduli Buipe alias Addo.
He also allegedly told investigators that the group had been contracted to carry out the robbery by a cattle trader at the Buipe market identified as Alhaji Yacouba, also known as Masaji, Muimen or Yakubu.
The Police have since launched efforts to locate and arrest Alhaji Yacouba and other persons believed to be connected to the robbery.

The investigation subsequently took Police teams to Atebubu, Soronuase, Agogo and Dawadawa, where some members of the suspected gang were believed to be hiding.
The Police said an exchange of gunfire occurred between officers and the suspects during the operation.
Three suspects, identified as Yakubu Seidu, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya and Oumaro Amadu, were killed during the exchange.

Their bodies have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy, according to the Police.
The Police said officers also recovered one pump-action gun and five live BB cartridges, as well as a single-barrel gun believed to have been used during the Buipe robbery.

Yacouba Oumar remains in Police custody and is assisting with investigations.
The Savannah Regional Police Command said efforts were continuing to arrest Alhaji Yacouba and other persons linked to the robbery.
The Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
