A complainant who called at the Badu Police Station in the Wenchi District of Brong Ahafo, launched an attack on Police Officers there hacking one of them to death on Tuesday.
The man whose identity is yet to be established, had entered the Charge Office with a machete and metal hooks used for holding cooking pots, ostensibly to report an alleged threat on his life.
The now deceased Police Officer, Inspector Awusi Yakubu, 59 years, asked him to put down the metals and machete but he refused.
According to Crime Officer for the Wenchi Divisional Police Headquarters DSP Vincent Adotey, sensing danger, a Police Constable secured a rifle to defend himself in the event of an attack.
"But lo and behold when the Inspector turned his back this man [unknown assailant] just rushed on him with the cutlass and slashed him [Inspector Yakubu] several times, one in front and at the back", narrated DSP Adotey.
Inspector Yakubu died from the machete attacks.
The unknown assailant then launched an attack on a Police Constable but he was shot dead before he could inflict wounds on the Constable.
The two dead bodies have been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital for autopsy and investigation.
Police reinforcement was brought in to guard the station overnight.
"Our SWAT team was there last night and we also detailed some of our personnel over there. We have about 15 men on the ground now", said DSP Vincent Adotey.
The police officer who shot the unknown assailant has been removed from the area to prevent attacks on him.
Police say they are investigating the motive of the attack by the deceased assailant.
