The Police Service has refuted allegations by the Electricity Company of Ghana to the effect that some of its barracks are engaged in power theft and illegal connections.

The Service says the allegations cannot be true, as the payment of electricity bills is done by the central command.

A press release issued on Thursday, April 20, however, said the anomalies existed for years.

“Our investigation revealed that at the Osu Barracks, the ECG disconnected three buildings because they had no electricity meters.

“Checks from our records indicate that the situation at both the Osu Police Barracks and the Kumasi Central Police Station has existed for some years now,” excerpts of the release signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Director of Public Affairs, Grace Ansah-Akrofi said.

ECG recently disconnected the power supply to three blocks at the Police barracks at Osu.

According to the ECG, the disconnection is due to illegal connections by the affected blocks at the barracks.

The illegality was detected by the National Revenue Mobilisation Taskforce of the power distributor on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

A similar situation happened in Kumasi, where one building was disconnected because it didn’t have its dedicated meter.

However, the Police Administration has rejected the allegations, saying there is no motivation for its officers to engage in such acts.
