The Ghana Police Service is yet to commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a final year BSc Agriculture student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The incident occurred three days after completing his four-year academic journey.
According to relatives, Patrick Mensah and his friends visited an illegal mining site at Manso in the Ashanti region, a day after returning home from school.
However, tragedy struck when one of the friends accidentally fell into a deep mining pit.
It is alleged that without hesitation, Patrick rushed to save his friend's life, but lost balance and plunged into the pit.
Despite rescue attempts, Patrick could not be saved due to the dangerous nature of the mine pit.
His body was later retrieved, leaving behind heartfelt memories.
Patrick completed his final year examination on Friday, August 23, 2024. He was waiting to defend his project work, but left school to visit his parents at Manso where the unfortunate incident occurred.
