Law lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, Moses Foh-Amoaning has taken a swipe at the majority Members of Parliament who approved Nana Oye Lithur as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.
He said the Majority MPs have betrayed all Ghanaians and will remain in Ghana’s history books as people who failed to defend the rich Ghanaian traditional norms and values.
“Today is a day of history; those Parliamentarians who voted for her [Oye Lithur] with all the controversy will be judged for going against the whole nation who were totally against her stance about homosexuality” he added.
Nana Oye Lithur was approved by Parliament’s Appointment Committee by a general consensus despite grave protest by anti-gay groups like the Concerned Clergy who believe she might use her position to promote the immoral act.
But the majority in Parliament defied all odds and approved her as Minister.
However, Moses Foh-Amoaning on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme expressed disappointment at the decision by the Majority in Parliament “for going against the tenets of their party and the position of the late President John Atta Mills on homosexuality".
He said the Mahama-led NDC seems to be moving away from their position about gays and lesbians with the approval of Oye Lithur whose public views about homosexuality has been vehemently condemned by majority of Ghanaians.
The renowned lawyer claimed that even though some former ministers of the NDC are embarrassed about the decision, they are left with no other choice than to go along with the majority decision.
This notwithstanding, Foh-Amoaning assured all Ghanaians that he would work assiduously to prevent any attempt to amend homosexual laws in the country.
He said he will soon launch an anti-gay advocacy group called Forum for True Social Protection which will be a watchdog over any institution that wants to push the homosexual agenda.
The Law lecturer indicated that their aim will be to protect and project African traditional values that distinguishes the African society to the western world.
“We will be very watchful of what she is going to be at the ministry and the steps she will take. There is no way we will leave that ministry to be handled any how because we know that the homosexual lobbyist will be working hard to have their way” he stated.
Foh-Amoaning was of the opinion that President John Mahama erred in appointing Nana Oye Lithur to such a sensitive position.
