Three more houses have been burnt in an overnight attack at Tuobodom in the Brong Ahafo region.

This brings to five the total number of houses burnt in what appears to be reprisals after five people were shot dead in the town, Wednesday.

No casualties were recorded in the latest raid but as Gaskia FM’s Anas Sabit reports, one of the burnt houses belongs to the Mamprusi Chief of Tuobodom.

The chief said he was about to sleep when he heard his neighbours shouting. He went outside only to find that part of his building was on fire.

The Fire Service was called in and the blaze was put out.

According to Sabit, most of the other victims were out of their homes when the fire started.

The residents in the community have complained about the inadequate security in the town.

The latest attacks come just hours after Deputy Interior Minister, James Agalga assured of heavy military and police presence in the area.

Sabit said there has been an increase in police and military presence on the streets of the town but very few of them are in the communities where the attacks are happening.

The Assembly Man for the area, Abubakar Sidik has been in talks with the Police and has been asking them to vary the security tactics.

Meanwhile, there have been strong indications that the disturbances have some chieftaincy undertones.

But Deputy Interior Minister, James Agalga has described that conclusion as premature.

He told Joy News investigations have begun to arrest the perpetrators while more officers have been deployed to the town to ensure calm.

“We have sent reinforcement from Sunyani to the area and so the security agencies as at now are patrolling the streets of Tuobodom and they have been able to restore some calm”.

He urged residents to the patient while the police handle the issue. However, some residents say they are terrified and in shock over the attacks.

Sabit says a lot of people have left the town adding that “Tuobodom is not as it was; it is currently a ghost town”.

Some of the remaining residents who spoke to him said if nothing is done about the situation they will also move out soon.

Meanwhile, two people who took advantage of the situation to loot properties have been arrested by the police.
