Residents of the Volta Region are mounting a strong advocacy for Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, widely known as Tanko, to represent the region in Ghana’s Council of State.
Known for his relentless humanitarian and philanthropic efforts, Mr Tanko has earned widespread admiration from his hometown of Weta in the Ketu North District and the entire region, making him the preferred candidate for the prestigious role.
Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, the Founder and President of the Mr Tanko Foundation, has left an indelible mark on the Volta Region through his selfless dedication to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and community development.
Through his foundation, he has initiated projects that uplift the underprivileged, offering hope to individuals and families across the region and beyond.
Residents pointed to his consistency in addressing critical community challenges as a key reason for their confidence in his leadership.
“Tanko is not just a leader; he is a visionary who has dedicated his resources and energy to the welfare of our region. His efforts go beyond charity; they inspire sustainable development,” a resident stated.

Residents believe Mr Tanko’s representation on the Council of State would significantly advance the region’s development agenda. They are optimistic that his vast experience, business acumen, and commitment to public service will bring more developmental projects and opportunities to the region.
“Tanko has the welfare of the region at heart. His efforts in philanthropy and his political engagements demonstrate his passion for seeing the Volta Region thrive. We need someone like him at the Council of State to champion our interests,” another resident noted.
Mr Tanko’s professional and political journey further underscores his readiness for the role. As the CEO of Sesi-Edem Company Limited, a licensed gold mining enterprise known for its eco-friendly practices, and TK Realties, a real estate company, he has exemplified innovation and responsibility in the business world.
His businesses have not only created jobs but also prioritized sustainable practices, making him a model entrepreneur.
In politics, Mr Tanko is a dedicated member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), serving on the National Welfare Committee. Though he narrowly missed clinching the parliamentary seat for Ketu North during the 2019 and 2023 primaries, his unwavering commitment to the constituency remains evident.
He has continued to contribute to the welfare and development of the area, earning him respect across party lines.
Notably, Tanko played a pivotal role in drafting the NDC’s National Welfare Policy Document in 2019. His other contributions to the NDC include serving on various regional committees, demonstrating his passion for public service and grassroots development.

Tanko’s resume is a testament to his leadership capabilities. Between 2010 and 2015, he served in various capacities at the Ministry of Transport, contributing to major projects, including public-private partnerships and railway line committees. He also made significant contributions to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, serving on the National Farmers’ Day Planning Committee and the Export Development and Import Fund.
His versatility extends to the agricultural sector, where he operates a 200-acre rice farm in Ziope, further demonstrating his commitment to Ghana’s agricultural development.
As the Council of State elections draw closer, the residents of the Volta Region are calling on delegates to rally behind Tanko’s candidacy. Many believe his combination of philanthropy, business acumen, and political experience makes him the ideal representative for the region.
