The Cape Coast Technical University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Joshua Danso Owusu Sekyere, is asking industries and government to support the technical universities in the country to live up to why they were established.

He says there is no difference between the brains of a black person and a white person stressing that the only difference is the resource support they enjoy.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of bricketing machine put together by the university’s mechanical engineering, Prof. Owusu-Sekyere pleaded with industries and government to support the universities to innovate and invent machines and equipment they would hitherto have imported.

He indicated that it is time Ghanaians realised that universities abroad are able to exploit with the support of resources to invent the machines sent into the country.

He said, “brains are brains and there is no difference between the brain of the white man and the brain of the black man.

"All that the technical universities require are resources to be able to bring forth machines and equipment that we need in this country.”

Prof. Danso Owusu Sekyere said the country could utilise the bright minds in the country should the industries and government repose confidence in them by resourcing them adequately.

“I tell you, there are bright minds in the technical universities, and they could be used to our advantage as a nation,” he stressed.

The Bricketing machine put together by the Design and Innovation Hub at the Cape Coast Technical University is to resolve environmental challenges associated with the disposal of waste from wood manufacturing companies in Ghana and other woodworkers.

The head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Cape Coast Technical University, Dr Kwame Anane-Fenin, breaks down how the machine produced works and its benefits.

“The difference between briquette and charcoal is that briquette is recycled agro-waste products and therefore environmentally friendly. Briquette, unlike charcoal, takes a long time to burn and has high calorific properties,” he stated.

Managing Director of Furnarts Ghana Limited, a wood manufacturing Company, Opeibea Omaboe says, the company is impressed with the outcome of their request to the university.

She said they would collaborate with the university more to innovate and develop machines that hitherto they would have imported from overseas.

The Cape Coast Technical University says collaborations between the academia and industry
would help in providing the opportunities to address challenges that confront the country on a daily basis.

The University says its vision is to be a leading innovative and entrepreneurial university and be recognised globally for its high-quality education, research, and innovation with a reputation in green and clean technologies.
