Rodney Nkrumah Boateng, Press Secretary to Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as 'Napo', has praised his impressive qualifications and credentials.
In an interview with Channel One TV on Monday, July 8, Boateng emphasised NAPO’s strong grassroots appeal, which he believes will be instrumental in helping Dr Mahamudu Bawumia secure victory in the 2024 election.
Boateng highlighted NAPO's tenure as Education Minister, during which he effectively addressed long-standing issues in the education sector.
He noted that Napo's problem-solving capabilities and dedication to improving lives at the grassroots level are key attributes that can significantly benefit the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
These qualities, according to Mr Boateng, are essential for Dr Bawumia, the NPP's flagbearer, in breaking the eight and securing a win in the forthcoming election.
He concluded by stressing the importance of leveraging NAPO's popularity and proven track record to achieve electoral success.
“For every politician, in this campaign, grassroots appeal is going to be very important. And I think that is one strength that he brings across… From my interactions with him for over the past 7 years, he’s an achiever and a doer. He sets his eyes on something and he’s laser-focused, I mean this is where we want to get to, we’re getting there."
“And I saw that whether it was Free SHS, or licensure teacher exams, national service for teachers, some of the difficult areas, double track, the computer meltdown, some of the issues that sort of stuck out during his tenure as education minister, and you saw in there a certain character who didn’t easily get carried away."
“When we had to reopen schools, COVID-19, Accra Girls’ incident where a student died and all that, you saw in him a certain determination that this is my mandate, this is my vision."
“I want to get there because this is what I have been asked to do. I think those are the qualities [he possesses]. Grassroots appeal is very important,” he insisted.
Meanwhile, the NPP will unveil the Energy Minister as its running mate today at 2 pm at the Kumasi Jubilee Park in the Ashanti Region.
