Residents of Saboba District in the Northern Region have given the government one month ultimatum to take steps to fix the roads linking the district to other areas.
The Saboba-Kpalba-Yendi road is always cut off every rainy season, which makes living in the area unbearable during such times.
This forced hundreds of residents to come out in their numbers on Friday, August 25, 2023 to protest against the government and the district authorities demanding urgent solution.
The disappointed residents started their demonstration from the cut-off part of the Saboba-Kpalba road, which is about 30km to the district capital, Saboba to present their petition to the District Chief Executive.
Addressing the press, the lead convener, Jalulah Jagri Maurice expressed disappointment in the government for neglecting the Saboba District out of its year of roads agenda.
He then gave the government one month ultimatum to fix the deplorable roads in the district especially the Saboba-Kpalba route to save lives as sick persons find it difficult getting to hospitals in Yendi and Tamale.
“We humbly request on behalf of the entire people of Saboba urgent action from your esteem office to address these pressing matters.”
“By attending to this crucial infrastructural needs, you will not only demonstrate your commitment to the welfare of Saboba District but also foster inclusive development and growth in the district.”
“We are by this notice, giving the government one month ultimatum to replace the damaged bridges and maintain Saboba roads, or else we the youth of Saboba will assume we have no government representatives in the Saboba District.”
“We await your positive response and action on this matter” he said.
Some of the protesters speaking to Adom News shared their frustration and threatened not to vote again should their roads be left unfixed.
The Saboba District Chief Executive, Charles Bingrini, after receiving the petition assured the demonstrators, that it will be forwarded to the appropriate quarters for action.
