As part of programmes to celebrate two decades of peaceful democracy and to ensure sustainability of peaceful elections, the organizers of the ‘Portrait of the Johns’, Pure Creations have appointed four renowned personalities in Ghana as peace ambassadors.
The affable Krokrokoo presenter on Peace FM, Kwami Sefa Kayi; an accomplished musician, Mr. Gyedu Blay Ambolley; the current Highlife Artiste of the Year, Kwabena Kwabena; Prince of highlife, and Lucky Mensah have all pledged their commitment to propagate issues that will bring about peace in the country before, during and after elections by using their field of specialty.
Kwami will use his platform on peace FM to promulgate peaceful elections whilst the musicians will also propagate peace at four peace concerts to be held in Kumasi, Tamale, Takoradi and Accra.
The first batch of celebrities were appointed to coincide with 28th April, which marks exactly 20 years (1992-2012) Ghanaians voted for the Referendum that ushered the country into democratic dispensation.
The ambassadors will have the privilege to autograph the Peace Flag which is expected to be autograph first by President John Atta Mills, former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, and John Agyekum Kufuor.
The Peace Flag, which is the flag of Ghana, will as well be autographed by some clergy, sportsmen/women, security capos, politicians, traditional leaders, statesmen/women and some one million Ghanaians a cross the country to symbolize their pledge to peaceful elections.
We intend to present the Peace Flag to all the various presidential and parliamentary candidates for their autographs to symbolize their commitment to peaceful, free and fair elections. The Peace Flag would finally be handed to the National Peace Council on the day of honouring the three Johns.
Some of the dignitaries suppose to autograph the flag include:
Current Vice President John D. Mahama, Former Vice President H.E Aliu Mahama, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Reverend Prof. Emmanuel Asante, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, Electoral Commission, Nana Akufo Addo, Presidential Candidate of NPP, the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Georgina Wood, the Speaker of Parliament, Her Ladyship Joyce Bamford Addo, the Majority Leader, Hon. Cletus Avoka, the Minority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
Others are, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Paul Tawiah Quaye, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Peter Augustine Blay, the Director General of Ghana Prisons Service, Mr. Kofi Bansah, the Director General of Ghana Immigration Service, Dr. Peter Wiredu, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra Archdiocese of the Catholic Church, Father Palmer Buckle, the General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, the General Overseer of International Central Gospel Church, Dr. Mensah Otabil, General Overseer of Royal House Chapel, Rev Sam Korankye Ankrah, General Overseer of Lighthouse Chapel, Rev Dag Heward Mills, General Overseer of Word Miracle Church Bishop Agyin-Asare, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, etc.
The main objective of the ‘Portraits of the Johns’ is to celebrate the lives, works and achievements of the three presidents in the fourth republic, Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and John Evans Atta Mills for their contributions to the growth and sustainability of Ghana’s democracy.
The event is to celebrate the 20 years of peaceful democracy in Ghana, honour and highlight the achievements of the various heads of state that have served during the period, honour other individuals and institutions that contributed their quota to the building of peaceful and stronger democracy.
