Convener of the OneGhana Movement and Trustee of the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, Senyo Hosi, has commended Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson for initiating an audit of public claims amounting to GH¢21 billion.
Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, March 14, Mr Hosi described the move as a bold and necessary step towards strengthening accountability in the management of public funds.
According to him, the decision to subject the claims to thorough scrutiny signals a renewed commitment by the Finance Ministry to address irregularities within the public financial system.
“The decision by the Finance Minister to audit these claims is commendable. It shows a willingness to confront the issues within the system,” he said during the programme.
Mr Hosi stressed that such actions are crucial in restoring public confidence and ensuring that taxpayers’ money is properly safeguarded.
“For far too long, we have allowed questionable claims to go through the system. If we are serious about protecting the public purse, then audits like this must become the norm,” he stated.
He further urged authorities to ensure that the exercise does not end with the audit alone but leads to decisive action where wrongdoing is established.
“If the audit reveals wrongdoing, then the appropriate sanctions must follow. Accountability must not just be spoken about; it must be enforced,” Mr Hosi added.
