A scholarship student at Brunel University of London, Kwadwo Owusu Afrifa, has revealed that some Ghanaian scholarship students studying abroad have been locked out of their university systems.
This is due to delays in tuition payments by their sponsors, leaving them unable to access essential academic resources.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Law on Sunday, February 16, Mr Owusu Afrifa said that several students are facing severe disruptions in their education due to unpaid fees.
He explained that many scholarship agreements between students and the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat (GSS) have either been suspended, canceled, or are on the verge of disruption.
As a result, financial liabilities have been transferred to students, leaving many stranded.
“A number of our colleagues have been locked out of their university systems. This means they cannot access basic university IT services, including library resources, lecture notes, and academic portals,” he stated.
Explaining the impact, he said that being locked out of a university system is akin to losing one’s passport to education. Without access, students are unable to participate in lectures, retrieve study materials, or even communicate with faculty members.
The situation, he says has left many students in distress, as they struggle to continue their education without financial support or institutional access.
Mr Afrifa joined other affected students in calling on the Ghanaian government to urgently address the delays in scholarship disbursements to prevent further academic disruptions.
