South African rapper Costa Tsobanoglou, better known by his stage name Costa Titch, has passed away. The well-known performer was 28 years old.

According to reports, Costa Titch collapsed while performing at the Ultra Music Festival at the Expo Centre, in Johannesburg on Saturday night - he was later reported dead.

In some viral videos on social media, Costa Titch was seen falling down during his performance but his security helped him to his feet and the performance continued.

In a report by the South African website Weekend Argus, Costa Titch reportedly had a history of epilepsy, a condition that affects the brain and causes seizures.

Meanwhile, confirming his death, the rapper's family in a statement noted that "it is with deep pain that we find ourselves having to acknowledge his passing at this time."

"Death has tragically knocked at our door robbing us of our beloved son, brother and grandson Constantinos Tsobanoglou who South Africa had come to love and idolise under his stage name Costa Titch. We are thankful for the emergency responders and all those present in his last hours on this earth."

"As a family, we are faced with a difficult time as we try and make sense of what has befallen us and ask that we be afforded the time and space to gather ourselves. The Tsobanoglou family thanks you for the love and support you have given to our son and may you continue to uplift him, even in spirit.”

Costa Titch started his career as a backing dancer before making the transition to rapper. He was known for his popular hit “Big Flexa”.

He recently partnered with Akon’s record label Konvict Kulture. Akon also featured on the remix of Costa Titch’s song ‘Big Flexa’.

Costa Titch's death is the latest tragedy to hit the South African music industry. In February 2023, popular rapper Kiernan Forbes, also known as AKA, was fatally shot in Durban.

Musician Rikhado Makhado, known as Riky Rick, was discovered dead from an apparent suicide in February 2022.

Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in for Costa Titch.
