Parliament as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus is contemplating moving its sittings to the Accra International Conference Centre.
"For the time being, we want to leave one seat in between two members so that we sit in a way that is healthy. We will also be showing a good example to our countrymen and women on the importance of social distancing," Speaker Mike Oquaye said.
The coronavirus since it was reported in December 2019 has baffled health experts across the world while threatening to bring global economies to their knees.
Ghana hasn't been left out of this as the Ministry of Health has confirmed 24 cases of the disease with one casualty.
In a bid to ensure that casualties are reduced to the barest minimum, the country has put in place some measures including a ban on social gatherings, shut down of schools, churches among others.
But with Members of Parliament having to conduct parliamentary business in the interest of the state, a shift to the Conference Centre according to Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Oquaye is a step in the right direction.
On the floor of the House, the Speaker while admonishing MPs to adhere strictly to social distancing, said he is confident this will cause the public to rethink the need for a new enclave for MPs to undertake their business.
"When we relocate to the Conference Centre maybe it will make people realise that Parliament really is in need of a more spacious place to do what they are expected to do. So in future, all these things will be considered," he said.
