An audit report on the activities of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry Youth and Sports (MoYs), by the Auditor General sighted by Joy Sports has revealed that the NSA misapplied monies meant for the fixing of seats at the Baba Yara stadium.
The report which was made available on December 30, 2019 say, NSA misapplied GH¢180,494 of GH¢203,688 meant to fix broken seats at the Baba Yara stadium when the Ghana Education Service(GES) used the facility for their inter-college sports competition.
The Sports umbrella body charged the GES, Kumasi an amount of GH¢203,688 to replace broken seats at the stadium during the inter-college sports competition.
The amount was paid according to the report, but seats had not been fixed during the audit. NSA had used GH¢180,494 from the amount paid for the 2017 sports festival.
The money should be refunded, the report recommended.
Auditors also noted that, MoYS did not have a policy on operations and maintenance of the stadia, and NSA did not also have a plan to operate and maintain the various stadia.
Also of interest from the audit is the fact that Management of MoYS and NSA did not have monitoring and evaluation strategies to evaluate performance of the various stadia to ensure their physical and financial sustainability.
Management have also not put measures in place to ensure the five stadia commercial facilities are put to maximum use to generate revenue to ensure the physical and financial sustainability of the stadia.
