General Secretary of the NDC, Asiedu Nketiah has stated that, the Supreme Court of Ghana is not ready to protect the country's democracy.
Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNews on Wednesday, he added that, the Supreme Court is not prepared to protect the integrity of the 1992 Constitution
According to him, the court has shown this in many instances like the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election that the EC scheduled 72 days after the demise of the MP.
The court according to him did nothing about the violation when the NDC presented the issue before them.
“When there is a by-election, occasioned by death of a candidate the by-election must be held within 16 days black and white in the Constitution. If it is occasioned by resignation, the by-election must be held within 30 days. Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election happened and Electoral Commission proceeded to fix a date 72 days after the occurrence of the vacancy. We took the matter to the Supreme Court what did the court say?”
He added that the issue about our democracy is not about a bad Electoral Commission but an “ailing court” and that all evidence proves that the 2020 general elections were the worst.
Meanwhile, the NDC is set to hold a press conference on October 28 to address more of the issues raised during the press conference held by the Electoral Commission on October 26.
