Three students of the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) who were captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a student of Obrachire Senior High School have been arrested and are expected to be put before court.
The suspects—Joseph Amoh, 20; Benedict Appiah, 18; and Bilal Mamud, 18—were handed over to the police by school authorities on Monday night following high-level engagement between the management of SWESBUS and the leadership of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
According to an update from the Central Regional Police Command, the breakthrough followed discussions earlier on Monday, February 23, between the CID Director-General, Lydia Yaako Donkor, and management of the Swedru School of Business over the disturbing incident that has sparked widespread public outrage.
Police said that at about 9:00 p.m. the same day, the school authorities presented the three suspects to the Ghana Police Service at the Swedru Divisional Police Command, where they were formally arrested to assist investigations.
The assault, which circulated widely on social media in recent days, shows a group of students physically attacking a victim believed to be from Obrachire Senior High School, triggering public concern about rising violence in some second-cycle institutions.
Authorities say the suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned before court in the coming days.
The Central Regional Command has strongly condemned the conduct captured in the video and warned students across the country to refrain from acts of violence.
Police further urged the public to support efforts to maintain discipline in schools, stressing that anyone found engaging in criminal conduct will face the full rigours of the law.
The case is expected to draw significant public attention when the accused persons make their first court appearance.
