James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister-designate, assured the people of the region that they would be safe under his leadership as regional minister, during his vetting in Parliament.
He stated that if given the position, which would also make him the Chairman of the Regional Security Council, he would prioritise the necessary security measures to ensure the safety of the region and protect its people from violence and any other harmful behaviour that could threaten the lives of vulnerable individuals.
When asked in Parliament how he would ensure the region’s safety during his tenure, Mr Gunu responded that he would work closely with stakeholders, including traditional authorities, to "put in place early warning systems so that if any threats arise, we can address them quickly and move forward, because there can never be development without peace."
Commenting on the recent incident in the regional capital, Ho, where some supporters of the NDC went on a rampage and set fire to the party’s constituency office, demanding a ministerial appointment from the President for Ho Central, Mr Gunu stated that he could not confirm if the disturbances were politically motivated.
He explained that an investigation was underway to determine the cause.
During his vetting, Mr Gunu also promised to do his utmost to unlock the region’s development potential and improve the lives of its people.
