The immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana has said there is still a deliberate attempt to rewrite his legacy at the school.
Prof Ernest Aryeetey said the grand scheme to smear his six-year administration is unfortunate considering the level of development he oversaw in the institution.
During his tenure, the institution encountered some challenges both internally and with the Health Ministry over the construction of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
In 2018, after he had left office, his successor and current VC Prof Ebenezer Oduro Owusu accused him of signing dubious contracts which he said has enslaved the school financially.
A contract signed by Prof Aryeetey, through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with Africa Integras of $64 million in the Construction of a new 1000-bed students' hostel on Legon campus was said to be dubious by the current Vice Chancellor.
These allegations have been heavily debunked on countless occasions by the former VC who has described them as falsehood.
On Wednesday, he told Evans Mensah, host of PM Express, that nothing has changed as far as the machinations against his reputation are concerned.
“You can’t erase it [the legacy]. What has happened has happened. If you tell people that this man did that…they will believe you for a few weeks but when they don’t see any evidence, they realised that they have been taken for a ride,” Prof. Aryeetey said.
The former VC said he is happy about the way events have panned out without any evidence of shady dealings under his watch.
“Two years ago, I felt extremely bad about things. As I watched things grow without evidence of wrongdoing, I say hey, let me get on with my life.
"I think I’m quite happy with the way professionally…I just cannot sit down and watch things get destroyed for no good reason,” he concluded.
