The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight public officials and service personnel.
Speaking at the Ceremonial Gardens at the Jubilee House on Friday, August 8, where he laid a wreath and lit a candle in honour of the departed, the IGP said the news came as a shock to the entire nation.
“This is really very sad news,” he said. “We were all working in the office when we heard this tragic incident that occurred on the Obuasi road.”
Describing the crash as “a big national loss,” Mr Yohunu said the entire country, including the Ghana Police Service, was mourning.
“The whole country, and especially my people in the Ghana Police Service, are highly concerned,” he noted. “All that we are saying is that we wish the families and the entire nation our condolences.”
He added a message of hope and comfort to the bereaved families.
“We hope that God will protect the families of these, our beloved, gallant leaders of this country who lost their lives,” he said.
“God will protect them, protect their souls, and also protect their families in this difficult time.”
