Former Auditor General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has strongly criticised government officials who have failed to comply with the nation’s asset declaration law, describing their actions as “gross indiscipline and disrespect” for the President.

President Mahama submitted his forms to the Auditor General on Tuesday, February 18, and also ordered his appointees to declare their assets by March or face sanctions.

According to an analysis by The Fourth Estate, nine out of 55 ministers and deputy ministers have failed to comply with the law and the President's directive.

Similarly, eight out of 32 presidential staffers and 37 out of 84 heads of state institutions appointed between January 15 and March 18 are yet to meet the President's directive.

Speaking on the JoyNews News Desk on Wednesday, April 30, Mr Domelevo called on President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate action by dismissing all those involved, stating that "the axe must fall immediately."

Mr Domelevo emphasised that this disregard for the law undermines the authority of the President, especially after a public announcement and a directive from the Chief of Staff on the matter.

"This is not how to reset a country," Domelevo asserted.

"If the team that is supposed to help the President manage the affairs of the country is so undisciplined, it shows a lack of respect for the President and his office," he added.

He further argued that the President must take swift and decisive action, saying that the people involved should be dismissed "without exception".

In his view, there are plenty of capable Ghanaians — over 33 million in total — who could fill the roles of those who have shown a lack of discipline.

"He should clear all of them; there are about 33 million Ghanaians and several capable people who can do the work," he concluded.
