Traders at the Wenchi Thursday market in the Bono region have expressed worry over the poor sanitation in the market.
The traders said the insanitary condition has been persistent over some months, blaming it on the negligence of the municipal assembly to get the waste collected from the market as well as get the weeds cleared.

In an interaction with JoyNews’ Nestor Kafui Adjomah, some of the traders indicated that the situation has caused a lot of inconvenience for them and their customers as well.
The traders, especially in the used clothing section complained "we have endured selling under insanitary condition due to lack of attention from relevant stakeholders including WMA (Wenchi Municipal Assembly)".

“Look, sanitation here in this market is very appalling. The rubbish we produced last week is still here and we are doing business. It does not speak well of Wenchi,” a sandals seller, Kofi Yeboah said.
A used clothing seller, Richmond Amo, said some people have turned the market sheds into their urinal and bathrooms whilst others kept bringing their livestock to graze since the market is very bushy.

“The refuse which is left uncollected smell bad and poses a threat to our health. My major problem is about the authorities, I believe that the structures are not working,” Mr Amo noted.

The traders have however appealed to the WMA to prioritise sanitation at the Wenchi Thursday market and by extension fix the current insanitary condition.
