Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has urged traders at the Kejetia Market in Kumasi to vote out politicians who failed to fulfill promises made to them.
According to him, despite numerous promises made by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to reconstruct the section of the Kejetia Market, which was destroyed by fire, it has not been fulfilled.
John Mahama assured the traders that if he comes into power in 2025, he will ensure the reconstruction of the market sees the light of day.
He made this comment when the "24 Hour Economy Sensitisation Walk" made a stop at the Kejetia Market as part of the "Building Ghana Tour" of the Ashanti Region on January 24, 2024.
"If you refuse to redeem promises then you don't deserve to be voted into power. The market we built got burnt some time ago, we thank God there were no casualties."
"The Vice President promised to reconstruct that section but today I am saddened looking at the place. Very soon the NDC will return to power and fix the problem," he said.

In March 2023, parts of the Kejetia Market was engulfed by fire.
The Ghana Fire Service has established that the inferno was started by a trader cooking in the market.

Though the necessary investigations have been conducted into the cause of the inferno, traders are yet to return since it is yet to be reconstructed.
Phase two of the market redevelopment for months has stalled.
