The Forum for Public Sector Associations and Unions has denied knowledge of measures contained in the Kwahu Declaration of the 2022 National Labour Conference.
This follows a statement by the Finance Minister that government is liaising with Organised Labour and Employers Association to immediately implement contents of the Declaration to address salary inequities and inequalities of public workers.
Ken Ofori-Atta said in a national address on Thursday, March 24, that this would complement efforts being made to recover the economy and lessen the plights of Ghanaians.
But a statement issued by the Forum on Monday noted that the communique from the National Labour Conference captured in the Kwahu Declaration came as a surprise to its membership.
Members of the Forum say they would not support the Finance Minister’s planned implementation of the said agreement.
“Neither was the Forum given the opportunity to make inputs into the communique nor was it made aware of the contents prior to its publication. The Forum, therefore, dissociates itself from the Kwahu Declaration of the 2022 National Labour Conference,” the statement signed by Chairman of the Forum, Isaac Bampoe Addo, said.
Forum Background
The Forum for Public Sector Associations and Unions has been registered as a Federation of Trade Unions as the third Trade Centre in Ghana since 3rd September 2020.
It comprises the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG); Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT); Ghana Medical Association (GMA); Ghana Registered Nurses’ and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA); National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT); Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG); Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT); and Ghana Hospitals Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA).
This means it is the biggest Trade Centre for public sector workers. Its members also make up the majority of government’s payroll.
