The Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has claimed that the country is currently under dictatorial leadership and that the NPP is determined to return to power to restore democracy.
Speaking on JoyNews' The Pulse shortly after the party announced a nationwide thank you tour on Wednesday, Mr Ahiagbah stated: “This thank you tour is designed to reorganise the party, address the issues that need to be fixed, and ultimately get us back to a position where we can regenerate our party, reignite our passion, and work to return this party to power. What we have in Ghana today is not democracy; it is a dictatorship. We need to fight back and restore democracy in our country.”
He emphasised that the tour is aimed at reorganising party members and working towards securing victory in the next election.
Also speaking during a visit to the party's head office by former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, apologised to the public for the party’s shortcomings during its tenure in government.
On his part, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has rejected claims that his Muslim faith was a key reason behind the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections.
