The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Ghanaians that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not engage in deceptive politics prior to the December elections.
In an interview on Joy Prime's Prime Morning show, he described the New Patriotic Party's manifesto policies as illusory and unlikely to be realised.
He said the policies are a bunch of "deceptive grandiose promises which are pie in the sky and have no semblance to reality."
However, "we're not going to engage in that kind of deceptive politics. We have leaders in President Mahama and Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang."
Mr. Ablakwa stressed that the NDC flagbearer and his running mate are decent, honest, and committed to integrity, ensuring transparency with the people.
He asserted that the NDC will abolish all taxes they consider nuisance, including the e-Levy, COVID-19 taxes, and betting taxes. They will not introduce new taxes but will focus on managing expenditure.
The North Tongu MP is urging Ghanaians not to trust Dr. Bawumia’s promises to reduce the size of government, adding that they have copied the NDC's plan.
He further highlighted that the failure of the Akufo-Addo administration to improve Ghana’s economy indicates that the government does not need more taxes to develop the country.
"The NPP government's track record should show all of us that what Ghana needs is not more taxes and money. The NDC handed over about USD 1 billion to the NPP. They have been the luckiest," the legislator affirmed.
In the meantime the two major political parties in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), after launching their manifestos, have intensified their various campaigns ahead of the general election slated for December 7, 2024.
