The Western Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated emphatically that the party will lose the 2012 elections should Nana Konadu win the flagbearship race of the party. They argued that, the former first lady in her bid to challenge a sitting president for the flagbearership position has sown seeds of disunity in the party which will cause their defeat in 2012. The comments come hours after Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings officially launched her campaign to challenge President Mills for flagbearership slot to lead the NDC in the 2012 general elections. Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, the Western Regional Deputy Women’s Organiser Araba Tagoe stressed that Ghana is not ready for a female president and so a win for Mrs. Rawlings in the party's primaries means the NDC will go into opposition. She added that, Mrs. Rawlings who is ably supported by her husband, former President Rawlings denote that he (Rawlings) will determine her political decisions, something Ghanaians frown upon. Araba Tageo explained that given such circumstance, NDC delegates who will vote at the July 8 Congress in Sunyani would be doing the party and the country a great disservice if they vote for Mrs. Rawlings rather than President Mills. She observed that, President Mills given his massive performance and great achievement in just two years in office is a winnable candidate who should not be changed. The deputy women’s organizer noted that the only way the NDC can retain power is by presenting President Mills as the party’s presidential candidate to face Nana Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Election 2012. She believes the NDC will survive without the support of the Rawlingses. Araba Tagoe revealed that, she together with other delegates from various regions are in Accra to support President Mills who is scheduled to pick his nominations forms on Thursday May 5 at the party headquarters to reaffirm his second term bid to lead the party in election 2012.
