Hasaacas Ladies claimed their fourth silverware of 2021 on Sunday, December 5, after beating LadyStrikers to lift the Women’s Super Cup final.
A first half brace from Veronica Appiah and an own goal from LadyStrikers’ Edith Ogbonna, was enough to give the Hasmal Ladies victory despite a spirited late performance from the Strikers.
LadyStrikers started the game on the front foot with two clear cut chances to take the lead but it was Hasaacas Ladies who opened the scoring after just 14 minutes.
Appiah recorded the game's first goal in the 14th minute of the game, with a well composed finish from the 18-yard box.
After a misjudgment from the defense of LadyStrikers, the ball kindly fell to the feet of Appiah who dribbled past her marker before striking the ball into the net to break the deadlock.
The hardworking forward got her second goal of the night with four minutes left until the half time break.
She latched onto a long pass from her own half, before rounding off the goalkeeper and slotting hime to double the lead.
After the recess, the Cape Coast side had the opportunity to reduce the deficit but Martha Amissah missed from close range before Gladys Amfobea’s shot just went over the crossbar.
Edith Ogbonna while attempting to clear her lines, headed into her own net in the 59th minute to further worsen LadyStrikers’ woes.
Gladys Amfobea pulled a goal back for Strikers with a brilliant free-kick before Ellen Coleman reduced the deficit to one.
However, the two goals were all LadyStrikers could manage as Hasaacas Ladies wrapped up the game to clinch the trophy.
Having won the Women’s Premier League, FA Cup, and being adjudged the WAFU Zone B champions, the Super Cup is Yusif Basigi’s fourth honour this year.
