A Yutong passenger bus has been destroyed after it caught fire on the Mankessim–Accra highway in the Central Region on Wednesday, July 8, resulting in the loss of passengers' belongings and commercial goods.
According to a post shared on Facebook by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), emergency services responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at about 4:34 a.m. reporting a vehicle engulfed in flames along the busy highway.

Firefighters were immediately mobilised and arrived at the scene within minutes, only to find the bus completely consumed by fire. Before their arrival, passengers and passers-by had made frantic efforts to extinguish the blaze, but the intensity of the flames made their attempts unsuccessful.
Upon arrival, the Officer-in-Charge directed the firefighting crew to deploy hoses and commence a full-scale firefighting operation.
The firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby vehicles or vegetation along the roadside.

After several hours of operations, the fire was successfully brought under control and completely extinguished by about 7:12 a.m.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
The blaze destroyed the Yutong bus, leaving the vehicle beyond repair. It also consumed passengers' luggage and personal belongings, as well as approximately twenty crates of drinks that were being transported on board.

Despite the extensive damage, firefighters were able to salvage some passengers' luggage and personal effects before they were consumed by the flames, helping to minimise the losses suffered by those travelling on the bus.
Following the successful extinguishing of the fire, the crew conducted safety checks to ensure there was no risk of reignition and secured the scene before departing at about 7:18 a.m.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
