Twelve aspirants seeking to contest the Tamale Central Constituency parliamentary seat have been cleared by the vetting committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This has paved the way for the primaries scheduled for September 6, 2025. The primaries will take place at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
The vetting panel, chaired by NDC Deputy General Secretary Lawyer Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, completed its work on Sunday, August 31, and cleared all 12 aspirants to contest.
In a statement following the exercise, Lawyer Asamoah expressed her surprise at the high calibre of candidates, noting that the pool included professors, lawyers, doctors, diplomats, and more. She particularly highlighted the presence of three competent women in the contest, describing it as a refreshing development ovo88.
The NDC has urged the aspirants to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaigns, avoiding personal attacks.
Professor Alidu Seidu, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, pledged to campaign with decorum, citing the tragic circumstances of the by-election, which was necessitated by the untimely death of the constituency's Member of Parliament in a helicopter crash.
Some aspirants, however, expressed varying degrees of optimism about their chances. Dr Aliu Abdul Hamid, a civil engineer, confidently declared that he would win the election by a landslide.
Meanwhile, Hajia Mulaika Sualisu, one of the female aspirants, appealed to delegates, particularly women, to support her bid, highlighting the importance of women's leadership.
The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, also stressed the need for unity among the aspirants and their supporters, urging them to refrain from violence during the campaign.
