Ghana head coach, Otto Addo, says he has no doubts about the quality of goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi when he manned the post for the Black Stars against Switzerland.
The St. Gallen shot-stopper is on the verge of becoming Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup following injuries to Joseph Wollacott and Richard Ofori.
The goalkeepers have subsequently been ruled out of the tournament because of the injuries they are dealing with.
Ghanaians are not confident of the abilities of Ati-Zigi, who only kept his second clean sheet for the Black Stars on Thursday in 10 games, conceding 15 goals in the process.
After the Switzerland friendly, Otto Addo reveals his three goalkeepers, Ibrahim Danlad, Manaf Nurudeen, and Ati-Zigi are at the same level while acknowledging the latter’s good display.
“We knew that Zigi is good, and he did [well]. He plays regularly in Switzerland and gets very, very good remarks after each game. We monitor him so there was no concern at all.
“We knew before that the keepers we have at this level are inches apart. It’s not like somebody is that far away from the other so they are all at the same level. Sometimes it’s just little details.”
It remains to be seen if Ati-Zigi has done enough to convince Otto Addo and his staff to select him for Ghana’s World Cup opener against Portugal on Thursday.
